Exciting news! We are coming home to Amarillo!

Big update life here! I’ve been hinting at this for a while but...we are coming home to Amarillo!!! If you didn’t know, we moved away last year but the Smith clan is done living like gypsies and we are planting our roots firmly in Amarillo. We even bought a house! I’m so excited to get back to taking pictures again. Taking some time off was vital for my mental health and the happiness of my family. Before my break, I was feeling the burnout creeping up big time. Taking some time off allowed me to figure out what I really want for my family and for my career. I found clarity.

Springtime Family Pictures at Maymont Park in Richmond, Virginia

We are in Virginia for a little while for my husband’s job and I know that we aren’t going to be here forever so we want to experience and see everything that we can! We had heard a lot about Maymont Park in Richmond, Virginia so we spent a Saturday morning exploring the amazing grounds of the estate turned into a public park. It was beautiful! And packed with people. Luckily we were able to find a pretty little shaded spot away from the crowds to take some family pictures of our own. I constantly take pictures of our daughters, Neve and Ellie, but rarely do we get a picture of all of us (self-timer to the rescue). It was lovely and satisfied all of my Springtime-y photo cravings.

Neve | Springtime Birthday Pictures

I can’t believe Neve is three years old! She had her third birthday this past weekend and we celebrated with chocolate cake (which she did not eat - she’s a picky eater!) She did, however, eat the strawberries that were on top of it. She allowed me to take a few pictures of her in our front yard. Spring is my absolute favorite part of the year and Neve’s birthday makes this season even sweeter.

Addie | Portraits in the Studio

This girl! What can I say? She’s the best.

Addie has been my second shooter for weddings for over two years and she puts up with a lot from me! Haha. She is patient, kind, and often makes up for my shortcomings. We are opposite in many ways and I think that helps us when it comes to taking pictures at wedding. When I’m rushing around, she is calm and methodical. I could not ask for a better employee and friend.

Featured | Rocky Mountain Bride

I am so excited and proud to have Brenna and Landon's Santa Fe Wedding published on Rocky Mountain Bride this week! The beauty of the sunset on their day had me absolutely giddy. It was one of my favorite weddings from last year for so many reasons and I'm happy that more people get to see it!

What you should know about my personality before hiring me

People who are searching for a photographer - for whatever reason (weddings, family pictures, etc.) - have a lot of choices. It’s a saturated market so I fully believe that clients should choose a photographer by looking at all of the factors: price, quality of work, style, past reviews, print options, among others. Another factor to consider is the photographer’s personality, especially if it’s for a wedding day. If you’re going to be spending an extended amount of time with someone, you will want to actually like them!

Year in Review: Some of my favorite images from 2016

Holy cow, it's been an exciting year! This is the year that I finally started doing photography full-time without depending on income from another job. It's the year that Mason and I bought our first home (my office is no longer in the kitchen!) And it's the year that I shot 28 weddings and around 100 portrait sessions. To say that it's been sunshine and rainbows all year would be a lie, however. I've had many frustrations and difficult moments but it's all been worth it. I'm still ecstatic that I get to wake up every day and live this life.

My Own Love Story | Part Two

So Mason had just proposed to me in the stacks of Hale Library at Kansas State University after only 2 1/2 months of dating. We went to dinner at Coco Bolo's, the place of our first date, afterwards to celebrate. We were, of course, ecstatic.

I forgot to mention in the last blog that one of reasons that Mason decided to propose so quickly was due to something that happened to him before he ever talked to me while I was in Alaska. In June, he was over at his friend's house in Kansas. Together, they were praying and Mason told God that he was ready to meet his wife. He told God that he was tired of the endless string of girls that he would talk to for a couple of weeks and then the relationship would fizzle out as quick as it had began. He wanted to get married...and soon.
