The Wilhelm’s always hold a special place in my heart! I photographed their wedding two years ago and seeing them become parents and create a miniature version of themselves is the sweetest thing. James is an absolute doll who was easy to get to smile as long as you enticed him with his favorite ball. Babies are so wonderfully simple!
Read MoreMaternity, newborn, and now one year pictures! I LOVE seeing clients again and again and watching them grow. I especially love taking these pictures in clients’ homes because their pictures end up being so personal and so meaningful for them. It’s a special thing to have photos of your baby learning to walk in the front yard of your house or playing piano with dad in the living room. I think those are the memories that will truly be cherished 50 years down the road.
Read MoreFor Clint and Shayla’s pictures, I took a little risk and decided to go ahead with their session despite calls for rain in the forecast. And it was so worth it! We ended up with the most amazing stormy West Texas sky (my favorite) and I found a couple of new, exciting locations for pictures. It was such a fun evening.
Read MoreOh, how I looooove newborn pictures at home! Especially when there are older siblings involved. The McCurry’s welcomed their new baby daughter home and we took some snuggly sweet pictures on their bed and in their home. Their oldest loved kissing his new sister. It was so fun to capture these sweet moments as a family of four!
Read MoreI’ll be honest. I was a little nervous when Brittney, a professional photographer here in Amarillo, asked me to take her family photos. I always get nervous when I’m shooting for other pros! But once I started the session at the Amarillo Botanical Gardens I was totally at ease because her family is so much fun! First, her son is a definitely a photographer’s kid so that made things easy. Second, her family has a natural way of interacting with each other that makes those candid shots a breeze. I barely had to do a thing to bring their personalities out in the pictures. It seemed more like a fun evening than it felt like work to me.
Read MoreAbout five years ago, when I was just starting my photography business, I asked the Dolezol family if I could take their pictures for practice. They graciously accepted my offer and all these years later, I got to take their family pictures again. It’s kind of unbelievable how much their kids have grown and how much I’ve been through as a photographer in that span of time.
Read MoreYou know what I love about three year olds? We’re on their time, their schedule, and they honestly run the photo session - which makes my job easy! Little Kennedy here is so spirited and precocious. The best photos that we got (in my opinion) are the ones where her sunny personality shines through. I love the way she hugs her mom and laughs with her dad. I feel like those are the photos that mom and dad are going to look back on and remember what she was like during this time. It’s easy to forget how your babies were even a month ago. I think pictures can help jog those memories more than anything else.
Read MoreSometimes it’s worth rescheduling a session not once, but twice, to get the perfect day! And that’s what we did with the Otis family. February was dreary so we pushed the session way back to late March and I think it was worth it. Once we figured out exactly what makes Quint smile (mom tossing her hair around, a lot of encouragement, and tickles) we got some of the cutest giggles. Gosh, this little baby has a smile that can light up a room and this sweet, young family brightened my day.
Read MoreMicah and Keeston are definitely the type of clients that I could be friends with <3 They are relatively new to Amarillo, Texas but they have made it their home along with their two pups, who they brought along to the canyon. I LOVE it when people bring their dogs to photo sessions, by the way, because it relieves camera jitters and adds some freshness! Dogs do what they want to do and they often make their owners laugh which = photography gold.
Read MoreThe whole time I was shooting this sweet family session I had to keep telling myself, “Kayla, you literally just had a baby. You can’t have baby fever!”
But really, it did remind me of the few short months ago when Neve was only 2 months old and she could fall asleep anywhere (not the case anymore). Baby Samuel fell asleep during their family photos when his dad was holding him and it was the sweetest thing ever. Also, I’m dying over his adorable little chunky sweater.
*Currently reminding myself that I can’t have another baby!* Not yet anyway…
