Weston + Aubrey | Proposal in Palo Duro Canyon

Proposals are just the best because I get to keep a secret! Sure, I’m nervous the whole time and freaking out that I’m going to accidentally say something to give the secret away but it’s so much fun!

Weston contacted me a few weeks ago because he and his girlfriend were coming to Palo Duro Canyon for a vacation. He knew that he wanted to propose and he knew that Aubrey would love having pictures of the moment. So we hatched a plan. He told her that his mom wanted to get pictures of the two of them so she thought it was a regular photo session. All that changed when at the end, overlooking the canyon at sunset, Weston got down on one knee and proposed. Weston was nervous for weeks leading up to that moment but I’m sure it was worth it :)

Springtime Family Photos in Palo Duro Canyon

I love it when grown up families get their photos taken! Don't get me wrong - I love kids - but it's so nice and easy to take pictures of adults. Mom and and Christy and Cody along with their son and daughter and their spouses came from all over Texas to hang out with each other for the weekend and get their family pictures taken. They are a close-knit, extremely fun bunch of people who laugh constantly. I love that they weren't afraid to be themselves in their photos. It made for some true to life pictures that they can cherish forever.

The Mauldin's | Palo Duro Canyon Family Photos

The Mauldin's family photo session in Palo Duro Canyon was one of those sessions that I got too distracted talking to the family and getting to know them when I should have been taking their pictures! I'm sort of kidding but I really did love getting to know this wonderful couple and their energetic, spirited kids. I can tell that they have a ton of love for each other. When a little girl tells her mom several times in an hour in the most sincere voice, "I love you, Mom," you know they've got something special.

The Medina's | Palo Duro Canyon Family Photos

This is my fourth time taking pictures of this sweet family! The first time was two years ago when the littlest one wasn't even born yet! I've so enjoyed getting to know them over the past couple of years and documenting the girls growing up. They keep getting prettier and prettier and I hope I get to take their pictures for years to come.

The Pape's | Family Photos in Palo Duro Canyon

I could barely take pictures during my family photo session with the Pape's in Palo Duro Canyon because I was laughing so. darn. much. All of them were cracking jokes and having a good time together as a family. They had a good laugh at me when I accidentally referred to their hands as "paws" (I clearly spend too much time with my dog, Roscoe). I loved my time with the Pape's and even though we only spent an hour together, I felt like I got to know them.

Milestone Anniversary Party at Tascosa Country Club

This party was so special because it was for not one, but FIVE anniversaries in this family! The patriarch and matriarch of the family were celebrating their 60th anniversary and other family members celebrated their 40th, 30th, 20th, and 10th anniversaries. Coming from all over the United States (Nashville, Albuquerque, and of course, Amarillo) this family came together to celebrate these huge milestones in their life. It was a fun group to hang out with for a couple of hours!

The Wyckoff's | Family photos at home and at Palo Duro Canyon

It was a struggle for this family session to actually happen. We had to reschedule TWICE for bad weather! But the evening we ended up with could not have been more perfect - there's nothing quite like a glorious spring day in our little corner of the world. We began the Wyckoff's family photos in their picturesque front yard on a brick street in Canyon. They've put a lot of love into their home and I was so happy to create some memories for them at this happy time in their lives.

Hayley + Matt | Palo Duro Canyon Maternity Photo Session

I first met these two a couple of years ago when Matt proposed to Hayley right there in Palo Duro Canyon. It was the perfect place to return to for their maternity photos. I love being able to meet couples, see them get married, and then watch them turn into families. It reminds me how fast time moves and how important it is to remember those sweet, small moments.

The Fryml's | Palo Duro Canyon Family Photos

The Fryml trio, who recently moved here from Los Angeles, just so happened to book their family photo session on their son Isaac's first birthday. It looks warm and sunny in Palo Duro Canyon but in reality it was bitterly cold. However, Isaac was a total trooper and his parents worked so hard to keep him happy, warm, and smiley. You can tell that this family has a lot of love for one another and I seriously enjoyed seeing the excitement between them. It was one of those sessions that left me feeling warm and fuzzy (despite the frigid temps!) as I drove home.

The Mosley's | Lake Tanglewood Family Photos

After an initial rescheduling, the Mosley family got pretty lucky with their family picture session because it was on wonderfully warm December day. That's something I love about West Texas - we are already in December and it still looks and feels like fall outside (though I don't want to jinx it!). However, I'm pretty sure that Lake Tanglewood would look beautiful no matter what and the Mosley family sure looks good in it. Jordan and Ryan recently got married in Turks and Caicos (I'm jealous!) and I loved getting to photograph their first pictures together as a family.

The Liles Family | Amarillo Family Photographer

I love this family! I photographed Holly and Tyler's wedding in Dumas, Texas back in June of this year and I was so happy when she contacted me to take her family pictures this fall. Young, happy, energetic families are one of my favorite things to take pictures of and the Holly, Tyler, ad their son Landon did not disappoint me.

The Coe's | Sunrise Family Session in Palo Duro Canyon

The Coe family woke up early on a Saturday morning and headed out to Palo Duro Canyon with me for a sunrise family session. I don't do a lot of sunrise shoots but now I'm officially in love with the soft morning light. The family's youngest member (except for the new baby on the way!) stole the show. Lily had the sweetest smile and the biggest doe eyes. When her mom told her to "do her pose", Lily would stand sassily with one hand on her hip and flash her nose-crinkling, heart-melting smile.
