Some of my favorite images from 2017

70 portrait sessions and 24 weddings later, I can't believe another year is almost over. This has been a year of substantial change for me personally - Mason graduated college and started a new job and we are expecting a baby girl. I did a ton of traveling with weddings in Lubbock, one in Santa Fe, another in Dallas, and an engagement session in Washington, D.C. I'm exhausted! But happy :)

While this year was exciting in many ways, I can't help but look towards the future. My business stayed relatively the same as last year - besides hiring my amazing second shooter Addie. However, in the coming year, I know that big, somewhat scary changes are coming. With the birth of our baby in April, I know that my business will never look the same as it does now. In some ways, that makes me apprehensive. I'm going to have to forego my cherished routine and simply edit when the baby allows me to. I'm going to have to actually hire a baby sitter. I'm going to miss her when I'm photographing a wedding. I'm going to have to take time off and maybe take on less work.

Despite the huge changes that a baby brings, I'm of course more excited than I am scared. I get to be a mom! Something that I've waited my entire life for. And I get to see Mason become a dad - making those father/daughter moments at weddings even more emotional (like I don't cry enough at weddings).

Right now I'm waiting in anticipation for what 2018 will bring while I look back at how wonderful 2017 was to me.

Here are some of my favorite images from the year:

Madeline's might just be my favorite dress of the year. I told her, "I would choose that dress and I'm not just saying that!"

When I took this photo I about died - the dress, her smile, the wind - it was a perfect moment.

We kept trying to get the dogs to look at that camera - but since we were in the middle of Memorial Bridge in D.C., that wasn't going to happen. What happened when we stopped trying and started playing was so much better.
